Volunteer

Volunteering’s not just about giving back – it goes both ways. It improves your wellbeing, gives you skills for the future, and helps you make new friends (and memories).

Aged 14+

Young Leader

As a Young Leader in Uttoxeter, you’re given CV making responsibility and experience from day one. You’ll have the opportunity to participate in young leader training and earn your Young Leader’s belt. You can be a YL with Beavers, Cubs or Scouts and work as a core part of the section leadership team. Being a Young Leader is also a great way to fulfil the volunteering section for your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Bronze, Silver or Gold.

Aged 18+

Occasional Helper/Scout Active Support

Step up to support your group/section in delivery of a life-changing program. This role is the perfect introduction to adult scouting and allows you to do as little or as much as you’d like.

Section Assistants

These are one or more adults who assist the Section Leader in planning and delivering programmes to young people in the Movement. They are heavily supported in this role and are unable to run scouting events (including weekday evenings) without an assistant/section leader present. This is the perfect step for someone wanting to contribute more to their section.

Assistant Section Leader

These are one or more adults appointed to assist the Section Leader in all aspects of the role. It is good practice, but not necessary, to have one or more Assistant Section Leaders. Assistant section leader’s receive the same award winning training as a Section Leaders and capable of running section evenings where a Section Leader is unavailable

Section Leader

An adult responsible for the supervision, planning and delivery of the programme for the Drey, Colony, Pack, Troop or Unit and the management of the Section. It is possible for this to be a role shared between two or more volunteers.

Adult Support Roles

We have a wide variety of roles designed to support adults in scouting and to further enable Scouting to take place. If you’d like to know more about these opportunities, including working at a district level as a member of our executive committee or have specialist skills you’d like to offer, please contact our District Commissioner directly – Elizabeth.Birch@Staffordshirescouts.org.uk
